Panhandle Panthers (Panhandle, TX) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Vega Longhorns (Vega, TX), 51-39 in a league bout.

With the victory, Panhandle upgrades its record to 13-5 on the campaign. The Panthers host Highland Park (Amarillo, TX) to play the Hornets in a 2A Region I District 3 bout on Tuesday, January 17. The Hornets come into the bout with a record of 11-10. Highland Park lost 44-34 in their recent league bout against Farwell (Farwell, TX)

Next up, the Longhorns play the Bovina Mustangs (Bovina, TX) in a 2A Region I District 3 bout, on Tuesday, January 17. Vega will attempt to upgrade on its 11-7 season record. The Mustangs come into the bout with a 13-8 record after their 43-39 league win over Boys Ranch (Boys Ranch, TX).
