Sands Mustangs (Ackerly, TX) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Klondike Cougars (Lamesa, TX), 56-51 in a league bout.

With the victory, Sands upgrades its record to 19-5 on the campaign. The Mustangs host Grady (Lenorah, TX) to play the Wildcats in a 1A Region I District 8 bout on Tuesday, January 17. The Wildcats come into the bout with a record of 10-6.

Next up, the Cougars play the Dawson Dragons (Welch, TX) in a 1A Region I District 8 bout, on Tuesday, January 17. Klondike will attempt to upgrade on its 13-3 season record. The Dragons come into the bout with a 3-4 record after their 72-30 league loss to Wellman-Union (Wellman, TX).
