Klondike Cougars (Lamesa, TX) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Sands Mustangs (Ackerly, TX), 49-48 in a league bout.

With the victory, Klondike upgrades its record to 18-3 on the campaign. The Cougars travel to Dawson (Welch, TX) to play the Dragons in a 1A Region I District 8 bout on Friday, February 3. The Dragons come into the bout with a record of 3-7. Dawson lost 33-18 in their recent league bout against Loop (Loop, TX)

Next up, the Mustangs play the Grady Wildcats (Lenorah, TX) in a 1A Region I District 8 bout, on Friday, February 3. Sands will attempt to upgrade on its 23-6 season record.
