In Friday's league match, the host Shelby Golden Lions basketball team scored a decisive 54-27 triumph over the Thomas Jefferson Gryphons.

In their next game, the Golden Lions meet the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets (Bessemer City, NC) in a 1A/2A Conference 40 match, on Wednesday, January 18. Shelby will attempt to better on its 12-1 season record. The Yellow Jackets enter the match with a 12-4 record after their 57-16 league win over Highland Tech (Gastonia, NC).
