The Alexander Central Cougars (Taylorsville, NC) basketball nipped the host Hibriten Panthers (Lenoir, NC), 40-38 in Tuesday's league test.
The Cougars (11-5) will now prepare for their test against Freedom (Morganton, NC). The Patriots go into the 3A/4A Conference 52 test with a 13-4 record. In their last test, Freedom was tipped by Watauga (Boone, NC), 98-80, in a league test.
The Panthers now own a 8-9 record. They play next when they host South Caldwell for a 3A/4A Conference 52 test on Thursday, January 19. Hibriten will encounter a Spartans squad coming off a 63-56 league win over Ashe County (West Jefferson, NC). The Spartans record now stands at 9-9.
