Mississippi High School Basketball - Quitman knocked off by Newton County

The Newton County Cougars basketball team scored 34 points and held the visiting Quitman Panthers to 18 in the Cougars league triumph on Tuesday.

The Cougars now sport a 1-4 record. They put it on the line next when they host Northeast Jones for a 4A Region 5 contest on Friday, January 20. Newton County will battle a Tigers team coming off a 50-39 league loss to Quitman (Quitman, MS). The Tigers record now stands at 8-8.

The Panthers (13-10) will now prepare for their contest against Mendenhall (Mendenhall, MS). The Tigers enter the 4A Region 5 contest with a 6-8 record.
