Mitchell Mountaineers (Bakersville, NC) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Owen Warhorses (Black Mountain, NC), 48-38 in a league bout.

With the win, Mitchell upgrades its record to 8-10 on the season. The Mountaineers travel to Draughn (Valdese, NC) to play the Wildcats in a 1A/2A Conference 42 bout on Tuesday, January 24. The Wildcats go into the bout with a record of 10-8. Draughn lost 55-42 in their recent league bout against Avery County (Newland, NC)

Next up, the Warhorses play the Mountain Heritage Cougars (Burnsville, NC) in a 1A/2A Conference 42 bout, on Tuesday, January 24. Owen will attempt to upgrade on its 8-11 season record. The Cougars go into the bout with a 16-2 record after their 71-45 league win over Rosman (Rosman, NC).
