North Carolina High School Basketball - Avery County holds off Draughn

January 20, 2023: Valdese, NC 28690

Fans at Friday's league challenge between the Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC) and the host Draughn Wildcats (Valdese, NC), saw Avery County's basketball squad hold off Draughn by a tally of 42-38.

With the victory, Avery County improves its record to 10-5 on the campaign. The Vikings host Mountain Heritage (Burnsville, NC) to confront the Cougars in a non-league challenge on Friday, January 27. The Cougars come into the challenge with a record of 8-4.

Next up, the Wildcats confront the Mitchell Mountaineers (Bakersville, NC) in a non-league challenge, on Tuesday, January 24. Draughn will attempt to improve on its 3-9 season record. The Mountaineers come into the challenge with a 11-3 record after their 50-28 non-league win over Owen (Black Mountain, NC).
