Mecklenburg County Phoenix (Baskerville, VA) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Halifax County Comets (South Boston, VA), 54-53 in a league bout.

With the victory, Mecklenburg County upgrades its record to 6-10 on the campaign. The Phoenix host Bassett (Bassett, VA) to play the Bengals in a Piedmont bout on Friday, January 27. The Bengals come into the bout with a record of 11-7. Bassett won 73-60 in their recent league bout against Patrick County (Stuart, VA)

Next up, the Comets play the Martinsville Bulldogs (Martinsville, VA) in a Piedmont bout, on Friday, January 27. Halifax County will attempt to upgrade on its 4-12 season record. The Bulldogs come into the bout with a 7-9 record after their 66-38 league loss to George Washington (Danville, VA).
