In Wednesday's league outing, the Galax Maroon Tide (Galax, VA) basketball squad overwhelmed the host Giles Spartans (Pearisburg, VA), by a margin of 47-22.

The Maroon Tide (9-5) will now prepare for their outing against Bland County (Rocky Gap, VA). The Bears go into the Mountain Empire outing with a 7-7 record. In their last outing, Bland County smashed Grayson County (Independence, VA), 65-37, in a league outing.

The Spartans now own a 4-8 record. They play next when they travel to Auburn for a Mountain Empire outing on Thursday, January 25. Giles will clash with a Eagles squad coming off a 66-28 league loss to Fort Chiswell (Max Meadows, VA). The Eagles record now stands at 5-8.
