Winfield Pirates (Winfield, AL) backers were in high spirits Thursday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Gordo Green Wave (Gordo, AL), 59-51 in a league bout.

With the win, Winfield upgrades its record to 13-12 on the season. The Pirates host Marion County (Guin, AL) to play the Red Raiders in a non-league bout on Friday, January 27. The Red Raiders go into the bout with a record of 20-6. Marion County won 68-31 in their recent league bout against Lynn (Lynn, AL)

Next up, the Green Wave play the Pickens County Tornadoes (Reform, AL) in a non-league bout, on Friday, January 27. Gordo will attempt to upgrade on its 2-8 season record. The Tornadoes go into the bout with a 5-10 record after their 54-51 league win over Holy Spirit Catholic (Tuscaloosa, AL).
