Lone Star Rangers (Frisco, TX) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Newman Smith Trojans (Carrollton, TX), 39-33 in a league bout.

With the victory, Lone Star upgrades its record to 13-17 on the campaign. The Rangers travel to The Colony (The Colony, TX) to play the Cougars in a 5A Region II District 9 bout on Friday, February 2. The Cougars come into the bout with a record of 13-18. The Colony lost 35-34 in their recent league bout against Frisco (Frisco, TX)

Next up, the Trojans play the Turner Lions (Carrollton, TX) in a 5A Region II District 9 test, on Friday, February 2. Newman Smith will attempt to advance on its 10-15 season record. The Lions go into the test with a 4-19 record after their 61-17 league loss to Reedy (Frisco, TX).
