Eastside Spartans (Coeburn, VA) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the visiting Rye Cove Eagles (Clinchport, VA), 54-53 in a league bout.

With the win, Eastside upgrades its record to 3-8 on the season. The Spartans travel to Twin Springs (Nickelsville, VA) to play the Titans in a Cumberland bout on Tuesday, January 9. The Titans go into the bout with a record of 5-8. Twin Springs won 67-48 in their recent league bout against Castlewood (Castlewood, VA)

Next up, the Eagles play the J.I. Burton Black Raiders (Norton, VA) in a Cumberland bout, on Tuesday, January 9. Rye Cove will attempt to upgrade on its 1-7 season record. The Black Raiders go into the bout with a 3-7 record after their 46-34 league loss to Thomas Walker (Ewing, VA).
