The Eastside Spartans (Coeburn, VA) basketball knocked off the visiting Rye Cove Eagles (Clinchport, VA), 54-40 in Friday's league test.
The Spartans (1-7) will now prepare for their test against Thomas Walker (Ewing, VA). The Pioneers go into the Cumberland test with a 4-5 record. In their last test, Thomas Walker went down by Rural Retreat (Rural Retreat, VA), 48-36, in a non-league test.
The Eagles now own a 0-6 record. They play next when they host Twin Springs for a Cumberland test on Tuesday, January 2. Rye Cove will encounter a Titans squad coming off a 54-32 non-league loss to Jenkins (Jenkins, KY). The Titans record now stands at 4-7.
