Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane (Fitzgerald, GA) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Sumter County Panthers (Americus, GA), 52-36 in a league bout.

With the win, Fitzgerald upgrades its record to 4-6 on the season. The Purple Hurricane host Wilcox County (Rochelle, GA) to play the Patriots in a non-league bout on Saturday, January 7. The Patriots go into the bout with a record of 4-5. Wilcox County lost 50-39 in their recent league bout against Treutlen (Soperton, GA)

Next up, the Panthers play the Lee County Trojans (Leesburg, GA) in a non-league bout, on Saturday, January 7. Sumter County will attempt to upgrade on its 0-8 season record. The Trojans go into the bout with a 6-7 record after their 58-37 non-league win over Terrell County (Dawson, GA).
