Fans at Wednesday's league battle between the James Monroe Mavericks (Lindside, WV) and the host Mingo Central Miners (Matewan, WV), saw James Monroe's soccer squad hold off Mingo Central by a count of 2-1.

The Mavericks (4-6) will now prepare for their battle against PikeView (Princeton, WV). The Panthers enter the Coalfield AA battle with a 13-4 record. In their last battle, PikeView tipped Midland Trail (Hico, WV), 10-0, in a league battle.

Next up, the Miners confront the Tug Valley Panthers (Williamson, WV) in a non-league battle, on Saturday, October 12. Mingo Central will attempt to upgrade on its 3-8 season record. The Panthers enter the battle with a 5-2 record after their 1-1 non-league Logan (Logan, WV).
