The West Phoenix Eagles (Phoenix, AZ) basketball nipped the visiting Maricopa Institute of Technology (Phoenix, AZ), 40-36 in Thursday's league test.
The Eagles (1-2) will now prepare for their test against South Pointe (Phoenix, AZ). The Griffins go into the Canyon Division 3 - Mountain test with a 0-1 record.
The now own a 0-2 record. They play next when they travel to East Valley Athletes for Christ for a non-league test on Tuesday, December 6. Maricopa Institute of Technology will encounter a Eagles squad coming off a 70-26 league win over Heritage Academy Gateway (Queen Creek, AZ). The Eagles record now stands at 1-1.
First Quarter
West Phoenix got off to a quick 6-2 lead as MIT battled hard to come back and take the lead at the end of the first 6-8.
Second Quarter
West Phoenix decided to pick up the pace as they went with their veterans in the second quarter to take a commanding 6 point lead that they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game. MIT was held to the same amount of points that they scored in the 1st quarter which was 8 points.
Third Quarter
West Phoenix picked it up on the defensive end as they held MIT to only 4 points in the 3rd while scoring 11 points of their own.
Fourth Quarter
MIT rallied in the 4th by scoring 16 points however West Phoenix stayed fast to complete the game and earned their 1st win of the season to win by 4.
