Newton Tigers (Newton, MS) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Kemper County Wildcats (DeKalb, MS), 51-43 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Newton upgrades its record to 7-5 on the season. The Tigers travel to Newton County (Decatur, MS) to clash with the Cougars in a non-league bout on Monday, December 18. The Cougars go into the bout with a record of 4-5. Newton County lost 57-46 in their recent non-league bout against Southeast Lauderdale (Meridian, MS)

Next up, the Wildcats clash with the Noxubee County Tigers (Macon, MS) in a 3A Region 5 bout, on Saturday, December 16. Kemper County will attempt to upgrade on its 4-4 season record. The Tigers go into the bout with a 0-4 record after their 44-34 non-league loss to Okolona (Okolona, MS).
