McMinn County Cherokees (Athens, TN) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Walker Valley Mustangs (Cleveland, TN), 46-31 in a league bout.

With the win, McMinn County upgrades its record to 1-2 on the season. The Cherokees travel to Sequoyah (Madisonville, TN) to play the Chiefs in a non-league bout on Monday, December 5. The Chiefs go into the bout with a record of 1-2. Sequoyah won 35-31 in their recent non-league bout against Loudon (Loudon, TN)

Next up, the Mustangs play the Rhea County Golden Eagles (Evensville, TN) in a 4A District 5 bout, on Friday, December 9. Walker Valley will attempt to upgrade on its 2-5 season record. The Golden Eagles go into the bout with a 2-3 record after their 56-34 non-league loss to Cleveland (Cleveland, TN).
