The crowd at Friday's league challenge between the Mellen Granite Diggers (Mellen, WI) and the visiting Hurley Northstars (Hurley, WI), observed Mellen's basketball team overcome Hurley by a margin of 43-30.

The Granite Diggers (4-1) will now prepare for their challenge against Washburn (Washburn, WI). The Castle Guards come into the Northern Lights challenge with a 3-4 record. In their last challenge, Washburn dropped by South Shore (Port Wing, WI), 50-35, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Northstars battle the Webster Tigers (Webster, WI) in a non-league challenge, on Saturday, December 28. Hurley will attempt to better on its 4-3 season record. The Tigers come into the challenge with a 7-1 record after their 51-44 league loss to Clear Lake (Clear Lake, WI).
