Mattoon Greenwave (Mattoon, IL) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Effingham Flaming Hearts (Effingham, IL), 66-53 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Mattoon upgrades its record to 7-7 on the season. The Greenwave travel to Brooks (Chicago, IL) to clash with the Eagles in a non-league bout on Friday, December 29. The Eagles go into the bout with a record of 1-11. Brooks lost 57-43 in their recent non-league bout against Oak Lawn (Oak Lawn, IL)

Next up, the Flaming Hearts clash with the Belvidere Bucs (Belvidere, IL) in a non-league bout, on Saturday, December 30. Effingham will attempt to upgrade on its 2-11 season record. The Bucs go into the bout with a 1-12 record after their 66-59 non-league loss to Charleston (Charleston, IL).
