John Paul II Centurions (Corpus Christi, TX) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the visiting Corpus Christi United Watchmen (Corpus Christi, TX), 58-53 in a non-league bout.
With the win, John Paul II upgrades its record to 8-6 on the season. The Centurions travel to San Diego (San Diego, TX) to play the Vaqueros in a non-league bout on Tuesday, December 12. The Vaqueros go into the bout with a record of 12-1. San Diego lost 61-53 in their recent non-league challenge against Rockport-Fulton (Rockport, TX)
Next up, the Watchmen confront the Coastal Christian HomeSchool Badgers (Corpus Christi, TX) in a non-league challenge, on Saturday, December 9. Corpus Christi United will attempt to improve on its 3-5 season record. The Badgers come into the challenge with a 6-1 record after their 55-50 non-league win over John Paul II (Corpus Christi, TX).

Watchmen United Varsity Cannot Finish Comeback Against John
Paul II Varsity. Watchmen United mounted a comeback after falling behind by as many as 11 points, but they still lost to John Paul II Varsity, 58-53, on Friday. Despite the loss, Will Jonker had a solid game with 18 points for Watchmen United. Trailing 17-7, Watchmen United went on a 16-point run to take the lead. Watchmen United had a strong first half, leading 30-23 at halftime, but couldn't keep up the pace and ultimately fell in the end. The second quarter was the best for Watchmen United as they outscored John Paul Il Varsity 23-8. Watchmen United shot 10-15 in the quarter. Watchmen United rebounded the ball well, collecting 27 rebounds. Peter Paulson led the team with nine rebounds. Watchmen United passed the ball well with 16 assists on 22 made baskets. Josh Lindsey led the team with seven assists. Watchmen United Varsity swiped 16 steals in the game. Lindsey led the team with three steals.
