North Carolina High School Basketball - Draughn holds off Ashe County

February 1, 2023: Valdese, NC 28690

Fans at Wednesday's non-league challenge between the Draughn Wildcats (Valdese, NC) and the visiting Ashe County Huskies (West Jefferson, NC), saw Draughn's basketball squad hold off Ashe County by a tally of 76-72.

With the victory, Draughn improves its record to 11-11 on the campaign. The Wildcats host Mountain Heritage (Burnsville, NC) to confront the Cougars in a 1A/2A Conference 42 challenge on Tuesday, February 7. The Cougars come into the challenge with a record of 20-1. Mountain Heritage won 80-35 in their recent league challenge against Madison (Marshall, NC)

Next up, the Huskies confront the Freedom Patriots (Morganton, NC) in a 3A/4A Conference 52 challenge, on Friday, February 3. Ashe County will attempt to improve on its 8-13 season record. The Patriots come into the challenge with a 16-4 record after their 73-69 league win over South Caldwell (Hudson, NC).
