North Carolina High School Basketball - Ashe County nips Draughn

February 1, 2023: Valdese, NC 28690

Ashe County Huskies (West Jefferson, NC) backers were pleased Wednesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Draughn Wildcats (Valdese, NC), 59-54 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Ashe County upgrades its record to 14-6 on the campaign. The Huskies host Freedom (Morganton, NC) to play the Patriots in a 3A/4A Conference 52 bout on Friday, February 3. The Patriots come into the bout with a record of 12-8. Freedom won 45-32 in their recent league bout against South Caldwell (Hudson, NC)

Next up, the Wildcats play the Mountain Heritage Cougars (Burnsville, NC) in a 1A/2A Conference 42 bout, on Tuesday, February 7. Draughn will attempt to upgrade on its 12-10 season record. The Cougars come into the bout with a 20-2 record after their 58-17 league win over Madison (Marshall, NC).
