Irion County Hornets (Mertzon, TX) backers were in high spirits Saturday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Garden City Bearkats (Garden City, TX), 57-45 in a league bout.

With the win, Irion County upgrades its record to 14-1 on the season. The Hornets travel to Veribest (Veribest, TX) to play the Falcons in a 1A Region II District 11 bout on Tuesday, February 7. The Falcons go into the bout with a record of 9-15. Veribest won 46-30 in their recent league bout against Blackwell (Blackwell, TX)

Next up, the Bearkats play the Bronte Longhorns (Bronte, TX) in a 1A Region II District 11 bout, on Tuesday, February 7. Garden City will attempt to upgrade on its 18-6 season record. The Longhorns go into the bout with a 16-8 record after their 25-16 league win over Robert Lee (Robert Lee, TX).
