St. Albans Red Dragons (St. Albans, WV) fans exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Independence Patriots (Coal City, WV), 5-4 in a non-league challenge.

The Red Dragons now sport a 2-0 record. They take the field next when they host George Washington for a Mountain State challenge on Monday, March 21. St. Albans will face a Patriots squad coming off a 6-4 league loss to South Charleston (South Charleston, WV). The Patriots record now stands at 1-1.

With the loss, Independence falls to 2-1 on the campaign. The Patriots travel to Shady Spring (Shady Spring, WV) to face the Tigers in a Coalfield AA challenge on Monday, March 21. The Tigers enter the challenge with a record of 0-0.
