Mountain Heritage Cougars (Burnsville, NC) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad achieve victory over the host Mitchell Mountaineers (Bakersville, NC), 10-0 in a league challenge.

The Cougars now own a 7-1 record. They take the field next when they host Madison for a Western Highlands 1A/2A challenge on Tuesday, April 5. Mountain Heritage will face a Patriots squad coming off a 16-0 league win over Avery County (Newland, NC). The Patriots record now stands at 5-5.

With the loss, Mitchell falls to 1-8 on the campaign. The Mountaineers travel to Owen (Black Mountain, NC) to face the Warhorses in a Western Highlands 1A/2A challenge on Monday, April 4. The Warhorses enter the challenge with a record of 5-3. Owen won 10-0 in their recent non-league challenge against Thomas Jefferson (Mooresboro, NC)
