East Wilkes Cardinals (Ronda, NC) backers exited the stadium thrilled Tuesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Starmount Rams (Boonville, NC), 6-1 in a league challenge.

The Cardinals now own a 10-2 record. They take the field next when they travel to Mount Airy for a Northwest 1A challenge on Wednesday, April 3. East Wilkes will battle a Granite Bears squad coming off a 13-5 league win over Alleghany (Sparta, NC). The Granite Bears record now stands at 1-9.

With the loss, Starmount falls to 7-6 on the campaign. The Rams travel to Watauga (Boone, NC) to battle the Pioneers in a non-league challenge on Wednesday, April 3. The Pioneers enter the challenge with a record of 6-4. Watauga won 9-6 in their recent league challenge against Freedom (Morganton, NC)
