McMichael Phoenix (Mayodan, NC) fans exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Rockingham County Cougars (Wentworth, NC), 5-1 in a non-league challenge.

The Phoenix now sport a 19-0 record. They take the field next when they host Walkertown for a Mid-State 2A challenge on Friday, April 21. McMichael will face a Wolfpack squad coming off a 19-3 non-league win over Cornerstone Charter (Greensboro, NC). The Wolfpack record now stands at 10-6.

With the loss, Rockingham County falls to 13-5 on the campaign. The Cougars host Atkins (Winston-Salem, NC) to face the Camels in a Mid-State 3A challenge on Monday, April 24. The Camels come into the test with a record of 6-8. Atkins won 22-2 in their recent league test against Ben L. Smith (Greensboro, NC)
