Fans at Monday's non-league contest between the Mathews Blue Devils (Mathews, VA) and the host Essex Trojans (Tappahannock, VA), observed Mathews's volleyball team hold off Essex by a tally of 3-2.

The Blue Devils (2-6) will now prepare for their contest against Carver College and Career Academy (Chester, VA). The Wolverines enter the Tidewater contest with a 0-2 record. In their last contest, Carver College and Career Academy was tipped by West Point (West Point, VA), 1-0, in a league contest.

Next, the Trojans meet the Rappahannock Raiders (Warsaw, VA) in a Northern Neck contest, on Tuesday, September 24. Essex will attempt to upgrade on its 5-3 season record. The Raiders enter the contest with a 5-5 record after their 3-1 non-league win over King William (King William, VA).
