Baseball Recap: Rice Memorial Triumphs

Rice Memorial let Burlington stack seven runs on them in the fourth inning on Saturday but luckily Rice Memorial prevailed anyway. The Green Knights had just enough and edged out the Seahorses 12-11. That's two games straight that the Green Knights have won by just one run.

Teddie Datillio made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Landon Merchant and Bryce Phelps did most of the damage at the plate: Merchant went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Phelps went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Merchant has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Mason Billado, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rice Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Rice Memorial and bumps their season record up to 6-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Burlington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Rice Memorial is set to take on their familiar foe Mt. Mansfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Burlington will challenge rival Colchester at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
