Baseball Game Preview: Proviso West Panthers vs. Leyden Eagles

The Proviso West Panthers will head out to square off against the Leyden Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Proviso West has now lost 25 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 24.

Proviso West lost 20-2 to Hinsdale Central on Wednesday.

Proviso West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Fuentes, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Leyden had to endure a 13-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Glenbard West on Saturday by a score of 3-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

The result came thanks to Angel Gutierrez's shutout, as he gave up just two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Luis Zapata, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Stephens, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Leyden's record now sits at 9-23. As for Proviso West, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-27.

Proviso West suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Leyden in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
