No. 12 Massillon wins first OHSAA state title with 7-2 win over No. 25 Archbishop Hoban in Division II championship.
The game of the week was in the Ohio Division II state championship as No. 12
Massillon beat No. 25
Archbishop Hoban (Akron) 7-2 in a defensive battle on Thursday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. It was the first state title for the Tigers since the OHSAA adopted a playoff format before the 1972 season. They finished as the state runner-up in 1980, 1982, 2005, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
This was the third time these two squared off in the state championship. Hoban won 42-28 in 2018 and 35-6 in 2020. The lone touchdown came in the second quarter after a 6-yard TD run from
Mylen Lenix. The Knights only points came on a safety with just under two minutes left in the first half.
Hoban was driving late in the fourth quarter but after an errant snap on 3rd and 1 at the Massillon 10, it forced a 4th and 8.
Tylan Boykin's pass fell incomplete in the endzone for
Jackson Callaway and the Tigers took two kneel downs to clinch their first OHSAA state title.

North Shore (Houston) erased an early 14-0 deficit and beat
Atascocita (Humble, Texas)
for the second time this year with a 34-28 win to advance to the UIL 6A
Division 1 semifinals. After trailing 14-6 at halftime they outscored
the Eagles 28-14 in the final 24 minutes. The win clinched a sixth
straight appearance in the 6A Division 1 semifinals for North Shore. Up
next is No. 23
Westlake (Austin, Texas).
The Chaparrals took down their district rival
Lake Travis (Austin, Texas), 21-14. The Mustangs snapped Westlake's 54-game win streak with a 49-34 victory in last year's 6A Division 1 semifinals.The Chaparrals have gone 68-1 over their last 69 games.

St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) became the first school in the state to win three consecutive Division I state titles since 1995 when St. Ignatius (Cleveland) won five in a row from 1991-95. They beat
Springfield 31-21. Sophomore running back
Brandon White led the way on offense with 32 carries for 235 yards and three touchdowns.
