Baseball Recap: St. Rita Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

St. Rita proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lane Tech Champions 5-3. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Will Rewers tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

At the plate, St. Rita got a big performance out of Joe Camer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Luke Arteaga, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

St. Rita's record now sits at 22-11. As for Lane Tech, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 27-6.

St. Rita and Lane Tech should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Mustangs will square off against Reavis at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (26 vs. 93). Meanwhile, Lane Tech (ranked 13th) will meet Richards (ranked 173rd) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
