Baseball Recap: Geneva Comes Up Short

The Geneva Vikings came up short against the Barrington Broncos/Fillies on Monday and fell 6-3.

Geneva got a good showing from Matthew Martija, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Martija has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mason Bruesch made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Geneva's defeat dropped their record down to 28-7. As for Barrington, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-12 record this season.

Geneva does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Barrington, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against St. Charles East at 4:30 p.m.
