Softball Recap: Hawkinsville Takes a Loss

Hawkinsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bleckley County Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-0 back in August.

Rheaghan Powers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hawkinsville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camille Brown, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Hawkinsville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Bleckley County, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

Looking ahead, Hawkinsville will face off against Wilcox County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bleckley County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jefferson County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.65 runs per game on average), something the Royals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
