Baseball Recap: IC Catholic Prep Takes a Loss

IC Catholic Prep had lost ten straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 8-18 to make it 11. They came up short against the Leo Lions, falling 16-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Knights' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Leo, their victory ended a 12-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-21. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

For Leo's part, Derrick Davis III made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Davis III also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Leo is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-21 otherwise. Davis III was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyle Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Devin Vassel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Coming up, IC Catholic Prep will welcome West Chicago at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Leo, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Morgan Park at 4:30 p.m. on the 28th. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.41 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
