Baseball Recap: Vandalia Takes a Loss

Vandalia had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 13-18 to make it four. They fell just short of the Carlyle Indians by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vandals have suffered since April 9th.

Kohnor Depew was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Vandalia: the team is 9-3 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-15 otherwise.

As for Carlyle, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-20. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 11th.

On Carlyle's side, Eli Gray and Ethan Brinkmann made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Gray struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Brinkmann pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Gray has posted since back in March. At bat, Gray went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Brinkmann went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jon Schmitt, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
