Wilcox has gone 8-1 against Palo Alto recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Chargers will look to defend their home field against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wilcox has three straight wins, Palo Alto has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Wilcox is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 49-0 victory over Capuchino. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 650th) , the win on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kai Imahara was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 70 yards and one TD while completing 77.8% of his passes.
Wilcox didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jeremiah Arevalos and Isiaiah Arevalos. Jeremiah got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Palo Alto played a tough game last Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against King's Academy, falling 35-7. The contest marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Even if they lost, Palo Alto's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Joel Haunga, Kevin O'Brien, and Tevita Fusimalohi, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece.
Wilcox now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Palo Alto, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Wilcox has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 236.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Palo Alto, though, as they've been averaging only 45.8 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Wilcox against Palo Alto in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-13 win. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
