The 6-foot-4 senior selected the Tigers over Notre Dame and Vanderbilt.

Originally committed to Indiana, Kiel decided during the season to reopen his recruitment.

While Notre Dame seemed like the team to beat at that point, LSU made a strong run late to snag the country's top signal caller.

Kiel was a first team all-state selection for Columbus East (Columbus, Ind.), throwing for 2,517 yards and 28 touchdowns.

He joins a recruiting class that features a solid offensive line in Vadal Alexander, Derek Edinburgh and Patrick Miller.

LSU, which started the day ranked No. 9 in team recruiting rankings, will enjoy a nice boost with the addition of the nation's top quarterback.

Conversely, Notre Dame will likely zero in on New Jersey athlete Devin Fuller, who the Fighting Irish recently started recruiting as a quarterback.
