Who had Ohio's best individual performances? You vote, you decide. MaxPreps is proud to again sponsor the Ohio Athlete of the Week awards during the 2023-24 school year.

~ Each week during the season, there will be a fan-generated contest to tab weekly winners. 

~ Each winner receives a digital award patch for their MaxPreps player page. 

How does it work?

Nominees are selected from statistics submitted on MaxPreps. Coaches who do not have current access may request their free account here. Weekly finalists are released on MaxPreps every Tuesday and voting is conducted in a special poll. Voting ceases at noon on Mondays. The winners are announced the next day along with the next week's nominees.

Participants may vote as many times as they want. It's a competition. This past week, over 15,000 votes were cast! So far this school year 9.6-million votes have been cast.

Week 28 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Emile Antinori, Kenton Ridge Girls Bowling
Senior rolled a 710 series to win the D-II Southwest District title.
 
* Cade Norris, Hilliard Bradley Boys Basketball
Senior dropped 16 points and became the all-time leading scorer in program history (1,521 points) in a 78-53 win over Hilliard Darby.
 
* Emily Bratton, Bloom-Carroll Girls Basketball
Senior dropped a career-high 44 points in a 79-39 win over Whitehall. The Miami University recruit is the Bulldogs leading scorer (over 1,400-points). Averaging 21.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 4.0 steals.

Week 29 Ohio High School Athlete of the Week Nominees

* Tessa Brousek, Padua Franciscan (Parma) Gymnastics
Junior won the bars and defended her all-around title at the OHSAA state meet.
 
* Kaylee Russell, Carrollton Girls Bowling
Sophomore won the OHSAA Division II individual state title with a total score of 665 (231-241-193), which ties her for the tenth-best series in girls division II state tournament history.
 
* Tayten Swain, Olentangy Berlin Gymnastics
Sophomore won the floor exercise and vault title and was runner-up in the beam and all-around (second time) at the OHSAA state meet.
 
* Ethan Hively, Hanoverton United Boys Bowling
Senior captured the OHSAA Division II individual state title with a total score of 726 (244-239-243).
 
* Chelsea Evanich, Marlington (Alliance) Girls Basketball
Senior became her school’s all-time leading scorer (boys or girls) with 1,551 in a 65-45 loss to Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary and surpassed 1,000-career rebounds in a 41-32 win over Girard.
 
* Sean Register Jr., North (Eastlake) Boys Basketball
Senior had 31 points and 11 rebounds in an 81-55 win over John Adams and 31 points, nine rebounds and six assists in a 112-68 loss to mentor. Averaged 29.1 points, 11 rebounds and 3.8 assists. Scored 699 points this season.
 
* Ava Patti, Rocky River Girls Basketball
Senior had 32 points and 13 rebounds in a 51-42 win over Boardman and 36 points and 12 rebounds in a 60-52 loss to Brush. Averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.3 steals. Finished with 1,349-career points and 701 rebounds.
 
* Allison Klinefelter, Columbus Academy (Gahanna) Girls Track & Field
Senior cleared 5-8.5 to win the high jump and set a new Division II/III indoor state meet record. Also placed third in the triple jump.

Senior completed 22-of-33 passes for 421 yards and five TDs in a 55-42 win over Harvey.
 
* Karlee Plozay, Bethel (Tipp City) Volleyball
Senior had 28 kills and 24 digs in a 3-2 win over Dayton Christian.

Week 2 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Josh Biery, LaBrae (Leavittsburg) Boys Soccer
Junior became the 17th player in state history to score eight goals or more in a game when he had eight goals and an assist in a 14-0 win over Garfield Heights.
 
* Mansour M'baye, Villa Angela-St. Joseph (Cleveland) Boys Soccer
Senior started the season with five hat tricks or better en route to scoring an Ohio-leading 21 goals in wins over Cornerstone Christian, Euclid, Cuyahoga Heights, Brush and Brookside. His 45 points ranks No. 1 in the state as well.

Week 3 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Demico Harris, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Football
Junior carried the ball 26 times for 306 yards and three TDs in a 40-20 win over Shroder Paideia Academy. Through three games he has 79 carries for 856 yards and 11 TDs.
 
* Dylan Smith, Norwayne (Creston) Football
Junior caught six passes for 147 yards and a TD and had three interceptions, one of which he returned for a TD, in a 38-25 win over Heath.

Week 4 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Korbin Johnston, Kenton Football
Junior completed 45-of-57 passes for 470 yards and four TDs and carried the ball 30 times for 208 yards and two TDs in 38-34 win over Bath. Connected with receiver Grady Kleman-Beazley as time expired for 55-yard game-winning score.
 
* Janiaus Hall, Lima Senior Football
Sophomore completed 25-of-40 passes for 438 yards and five TDs in a 45-14 win over Northview. Has thrown for 1,176 yards and nine TDs this season.
 
* Max Hagans, Wheelersburg Boys Soccer
Senior ran his string of hat tricks to four with three goals and two assists in a 6-0 win over Lucasville Valley and four goals in a 7-1 win over Fairland. Has 20 goals and six assists in seven games.

Week 5 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Blake Wagener, Maumee Boys Soccer
Junior ranks No. 1 in Ohio in points (72) and goals (30). Had five goals and an assist in an 8-0 win over Liberty Center and three goals and two assists in an 11-0 win over Swanton.
 
* Nate Toton, Open Door Christian (Elyria) Boys Soccer
Senior had six goals and three assists in a 12-3 win over Lorain and four goals and two assists in 7-0 win over Brookside. Has 20 goals, 14 assists and 54 points this season.

Week 6 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Jordan Frantz, Bellbrook Girls Soccer
Junior goalkeeper became the second girl in SWBL history and 43rd girl in state history to surpass 500 career saves with 13 in a 1-1 tie against Lakota East. Followed that with back-to-back shutouts in wins over Edgewood and Miamisburg. Her 508 career saves currently ranks 41st in Ohio history.
 
* Peyton Jackson, Fairland (Proctorville) Football
Senior completed 14-of-22 passes for 363 yards and five TDs in a 40-35 win over Gallia Academy. Has thrown for 1,354 yards and 18 TDs this season.
 
* Andrew Rusnak, Madison Boys Soccer
Senior had seven goals and three assists in a 15-0 win over Lakeside and five goals and an assist in a 13-1 win over Conneaut. Has 26 goals and eight assists this season. 

Week 7 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Taylor Karcher, Marietta Volleyball
Junior had 61 assists in a 3-2 loss to Fort Frye and 40 in a 3-0 win over Gallia Academy. She has 543 assists this season and went over 1,000-career assists and 400-career digs earlier this year.
 
* Lexi Grissett, Alexander (Albany) Volleyball
Senior had 26, 23 and 22 kills last week in matches against Logan, Vinton County and River Valley. She has 309 kills this season (ranks 16th in Ohio) and 1,071 for her career.
 
* Zander Yoho, Keystone (La Grange) Boys Soccer
Senior had five goals and an assist in a 6-3 win over Wellington. Has 25 goals, six assists and 56 points this season.

Week 8 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Edinso Cifuentes, Bard Early College (Cleveland) Boys Soccer
Junior had seven goals and six assists in a 17-3 win over Garfield Heights. His 32 assists and 90 points, rank sixth and 20th nationally. His 29 goals rank 72nd.
 
* Elijah Wilburn, South Point Football
Senior carried the ball 21 times for 277 yards and four TDs I a 38-20 win over Chesapeake.
 
* Kendall Hanlon and Natalie Rice, Western Brown (Mt. Orab) Girls Soccer
Hanlon, a freshman, had eight goals and three assists in a 17-0 win over Wilmington. Rice, a senior, had six goals and two assists. Hanlon has 22 goals and 11 assists this season, while Rice has 20 and 10, respectively.
 
* Nicholas Lampman, Newton Falls Boys Soccer
Senior had six goals and two assists in an 8-0 win over Mathews. Has 26 goals and 12 assists this season.
 
* Landon Fairbanks, Warren (Vincent) Football
Junior carried the ball 30 times for 190 yards and six TDs in a 49-21 win over Cambridge.

Week 9 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Addison Burick, Louisville Volleyball
Senior had 50, 49 and 35 assists in wins over Hoover, West Branch and Tallmadge, respectively. She has 701 assists this season and 1,922 for her career.
 
* Landon Montgomery, Heath Boys Soccer
Senior had seven goals in a 9-3 win over New Lexington. Has 93 points (37 goals and 19 assists) this season.

Week 10 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Arya Chabria and Yasemin Bilgin, Columbus Academy (Gahanna) Girls Tennis
Tandem out-lasted Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown’s Summer Mu and Kate Mills, 7-6(6), 4-6, 7-5, in the Division II doubles state championship match. Chabria and Bilgin won their school’s third doubles state championship and first since 2012. 

* Mia Hammond, New Albany Girls Golf
Sophomore shot four-under-par over two days to set the OHSAA D-I individual state tournament record and tie the overall record at the girls golf state tournament on the Gray Course at The Ohio State University. Hammond’s 136 (rounds of 67 and 69) matches the 136 (68-68)that Eaton’s Sarah Willis shot at the 2016 D-II state tournament. The previous Division I state tournament record was set by Katie Hallinan from Cincinnati Walnut Hills with a 137 (68 and 69) in 2017.

Week 11 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Katie Norris, Manchester (Akron) Girls Soccer
Senior had five goals and an assist and four goals and two assists in wins over Fairless and Northwestern, respectively. Her 61 goals and 146 points both rank No. 1 nationally.
 
* Gavin Richards, Nelsonville-York Football
Senior had 23 tackles and four TFL and carried the ball 24 times for 128 yards and two TDs in a 20-12 win over Belleaire. His 189 tackles this season ranks third nationally.
 
* Braylon Martinez, Hopewell-Loudon (Bascom) Football
Junior ran for 151 yards and four TDs on 19 carries and caught two passes for 55 yards and a TD in a 46-14 win over Montpelier.
 
* Landon Haas, Tippecanoe (Tipp City) Boys Soccer
Junior had three goals and four assists in a win over Brookville and the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Oakwood. Has 27 goals and 24 assists this season.
 
* Wyatt Keyt, West Jefferson Football
Junior carried the ball eight times for 98 yards and three TDs and caught eight passes for 72 yards and two TDs in a 45-14 win over Grove City Christian. Also had four tackles and two TFL.

Week 12 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Caden Henson, Valley View (Germantown) Football
Senior set the school record for TDs passes in a season in a 49-0 regional quarterfinal win over Bethel-Tate. Completed 15-of-24 passes for 292 yards and five TDs, which gives him 24 for the season. Has also rushed for 916 yards and 17 TDs this season.
 
* Luke Snyder, Rittman Boys Cross Country
Sophomore won the OHSAA D-III cross country state meet by setting a divisional state meet venue record with a time of 15:23.1.
 
* Rebecca Geiss, Heartland Christian (Columbiana) Girls Cross Country
Sophomore won the OHSAA D-III cross country state meet by the slimmest of margins (17:55.0-17:55.10) over two-time winner Caleigh Richards of Maplewood.

Week 13 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Cole Delaughder, Danville Football
Senior carried the ball 23 times for 238 yards and four TDs and caught two passes for 12 yards and a TD in a 41-21 win over Lowellville. Also had three tackles and two TFL. Has rushed for 1,676 yards and accounted for 202 points this season (28 TDs and 17 2-point conversions).
 
* Olivia Heitkamp and Melina Schrader, New Bremen Volleyball
Heitkamp (senior) had 55 kills, and Schrader (junior) had 86 assists, as the Cardinals defended their D-IV state title with two four-set wins over Shenandoah and Tiffin Calvert in the state semifinal and final, respectively. Heitkamp ends her career with 1,147 kills, 387 digs and 258 blocks. Shrader has 2,352 assists, 478 kills, 232 aces and 528 digs.

Week 14-15 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Lyv Lindeman, Jefferson (Delphos) Girls Basketball
Senior hit 12-of-15 free throws and dropped 35 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals in a 53-35 win over Delphos St. John’s.
 
* Chase Bond, Washington (Massillon) Football
Senior had seven tackles, four TFL, three sacks and returned an interception 49 yards for a TD in a 55-7 D-II state semifinal win over Anderson.

Week 16 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Dorian Pringle, Washington (Massillon) Football
Senior had 14 tackles, two TFL, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in a 7-2 OHSAA Division II state championship win over Akron Hoban that secured the Tigers first football state title since 1970 and first-ever under the current bracket format.
 
* Michael Osborne, Versailles Football
Senior tallied game-highs in rushing yards (131), passing yards ( 124) and tackles (15) in a 32-15 loss to Kirtland in the OHSAA D-V state championship. Also ran for TD, threw for a TD and forced a fumble.
 
* Brandon White, St. Edward (Lakewood) Football
Sophomore carried the ball 32 times for 235 yards and three TDs as the Eagles beat Springfield, 31-21, for the third consecutive season in the OHSAA D-I state championship.

* Brayden Richards, Perry Football
Senior carried the ball 11 times for 124 yards and a TD, completed 3-of-4 passes for 61 yards and a TD, caught two passes for 46 yards, returned a kickoff 13 yards and had eight tackles (five solo) as the Pirates won the program’s first ever football state title with a 21-14 win over Liberty Center in the OHSAA D-V final.

Week 17 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Zhieyah Rolack, Meadowdale (Dayton) Girls Basketball
Senior had 39 points and 23 rebounds in a 55-23 win over Ponitz and 19 points, 18 rebounds and six assists in a 57-25 win over Dunbar.
 
* Lyndon Gibbs, Washington Court House Girls Wrestling
Junior won the 130-pound title at the Walsh Ironman via decision (6-0), pin (5:50), pin (1:21) and pin (3:26).
 
* Duncan Moy, Badger (Kinsman) Basketball
Senior had 39 points, 13 rebounds, seven steals and five assists in a 75-61 win over Harding and 42 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists in an 83-66 win over Maplewood.

Week 18-20 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Mason Shrout, Preble Shawnee (Camden) Boys Basketball
Senior and Purdue-Fort Wayne recruit broke his own single-game scoring record and the program’s all-time assist record en route to being named MVP of the PS Holiday Tournament. He scored 45 points and set the assist record in an 80-22 semifinal win over Tri-County North and had 29 points, including his team’s final 10, in a 62-56 championship game win over Valley View. Averaging 23.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
 
* Ernie Pryor, Orange (Pepper Pike) Boys Basketball
Senior had 36 points, 13 rebounds and three assists in a 62-47 win over Chagrin Fallas and 39 points, eight assists and five rebounds in an 81-76 loss to Avon Lake. Also had 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 45-37 win over Rocky River. Averaging 20.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
 
* Evan Gentile, Fairmont (Kettering) Boys Basketball
Junior scored a game-high 26 points as the Firebirds rallied from an 11-point first quarter deficit to snap Centerville’s 43-game GWOC win streak with a 62-52 win at CHS. Averaging 17.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

Week 21 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Alex Bruskotter, Shelby Boys Basketball
Senior and Wright State recruit hit 12 3-pointers en route to scoring 53 points in an 84-61 win over Ashland. That’s the fourth highest tally in school history and the highest point total since 1957 when Ohio State legend and five-time NBA champion Larry Siegfried scored 60, 58 and 58 in a game.
 
* Grady Labishak, Bishop Rosecrans (Zanesville) Boys Basketball
Senior broke two school records when he hit 11 3-pointers en route to dropping 54 points in an 85-40 win over Fairfield Christian. Shot 11-of-15 from 3.
 
* Wyatt Walker, Edgewood (Trenton) Wrestling
Two-time state qualifier won his third straight Ron Masanek Fairfield Invitational title with a dominating performance at 215 pounds. He won his four matches via pin in 0:51, 1:41, 0:53 and 1:07, respectively.

Week 22 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Saniyah Hall, Laurel (Shaker Heights) Girls Basketball
Sophomore dropped 43 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 71-70 loss to Anthony Wayne.
 
* Ramy Ahmed, Eaton Boys Basketball
Senior and Ohio Northern commit reached 1,000-career points in a 58-52 win over Edgewood. He is just the fifth player in program history (school’s first team was 1919-1920) to surpass 1,000 points.
 
* Cole Thoburn, St. Clairsville Boys Basketball
Senior eclipsed 1,000-career points in a 73-62 win over Beaver Local.

Week 23 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Veer Shah, Dublin Jerome Boys Basketball
Senior scored a school record 38 points in a 67-62 win over Hilliard Darby.
 
* Quinn Kwasniak, Cornerstone Christian (Willoughby) Boys Basketball
Junior hit 13 3-pointers to surpass 300 for his career and broke his own single-game school scoring record with 60 points in an 85-34 win over Horizon Science Academy. Averaging 36.2 points.
 
* Tristan Pritzler, Oakwood Boys Swimming
Senior and Northwestern recruit captured titles in two events at the prestigious Southwest Ohio Swimming & Diving Classic. He won the boys 1,650-freestyle with a time of 15:39.73, which was 15 seconds better than the runner-up. Also defended his title in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:00.14.

Week 24 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Cameron Elwer, St. John's (Delphos) Boys Basketball
Sophomore dropped 41 points in a 65-60 win over Spencerville to become the 15th player in program history to score 1,000-career points.
 
* Emma Hanrahan, Tippecanoe (Tipp City) Girls Wrestling
Senior won the 130-pound title at the Bellefontaine Iron Maiden Tournament. She went 4-0 and won 12-1 in the final.
 
* Colin White, Ottawa-Glandorf Boys Basketball
Senior and Ohio State recruit scored 17 points (and had 12 rebounds, eight assists and five steals) in a 73-44 win over Van Wert to become Putnam County’s all-time leading scorer in boys basketball with 1,694 points (and counting).

Week 25 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Caleb Schmelzer, Fairfield Union (Lancaster) Boys Basketball
Senior hit 1,000-career points with 17 in a 79-58 win over Hamilton Township.
 
* Landon Brewer, Antwerp Boys Basketball
Senior scored 25 points to become the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,421 points (surpassed Jagger Landers) in a 65-41 win over Montpellier. Averaging 18.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
 
* Braylen Nash, New Albany Boys Basketball
Senior dropped 26 points in a 70-39 win over Westland to become just the second player in program history to surpass 1,000-career points.

Week 26 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Machi Johnson, Fostoria Boys Basketball
Senior scored 27 points in a 74-60 win over Van Buren to become the program’s all-time leading scorer. He currently has 1,329 points. The previous record of 1,324 points was set by Dan Hipsher in 1973.
 
* Ava Ater, Jonathan Alder (Plain City) Girls Wrestling
Senior became the first girl in program history to record 100 career wins with a victory in a dual versus Marion Harding.
 
* Jace Wood, Brookville Boys Basketball
Senior hit 17-of-21 shots, including 5-of-8 three-pointers, en route to dropping 43 points on Oakwood in an 87-70 win. Also had five rebounds and three assists. Followed that with 22 points, five rebounds and three assists in an 84-52 win over Valley View. Since starting 7-5, the Blue Devils have won eight of their last nine. Over that span, Wood has averaged 21.5 points. He’s averaging 18.6 points on the season. Headed to Huntington University to play basketball in college.
 
* Anthony Januzzie, Open Door Christian (Elyria) Boys Basketball
Senior scored 21 points in a 79-75 OT win ovr John F. Kennedy to surpass 1,000-career points.

Week 27 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Garrett Dillon-Rine, New Philadelphia Wrestling
Senior set the program’s all-time win (138) and pins (101) records.
 
* Kade Lentz, Elmwood (Bloomdale) Boys Basketball
Senior became the program’s all-time leading scorer (1,396 points) in a 62-44 win over Vanlue.
 
* Asa Geilinger, Barnesville Boys Basketball
Senior eclipsed 1,000-career points when he dropped 31 in a 66-38 win over Bellaire.
