Softball Recap: Pius X's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Pius X dropped to 12-15 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell 8-4 to the Gretna Dragons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunderbolts of the 8-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Cali Meents was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for Gretna, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

On Gretna's side, they got a great performance from Taelyn Rupiper as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over 5.2 innings pitched. Rupiper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddie Kurrus, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Marshall, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Pius X wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 6-0 defeat against Millard North on the 4th. As for Gretna, they have also already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Columbus on the 8th.
