Baseball Recap: Von Steuben Takes a Loss

Von Steuben fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Deerfield on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 7-6. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost seven in a row.

Von Steuben saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brian Hayden, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Damian Guerrero was another, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Von Steuben's defeat dropped their record down to 17-15-1. As for Deerfield, they pushed their record up to 13-21 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Von Steuben will face off against New Trier at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Deerfield, they will challenge Lakes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
