High school baseball stolen base leaders: Texas senior swiped 62 bags in 24 games

By Mitch Stephens May 11, 2022, 11:00am

Tycorion Porter stole six bases in three different games for San Augustine.

Starling Marte led Major League Baseball with 47 stolen bases in 120 games during the 2021 season. Tycorion Porter of San Augustine (Texas) surpassed that total by a significant margin in just 24 games this spring.

The senior shortstop had 62 stolen bases – three times swiping six bags in single games – to lead all high school baseball players nationally according to MaxPreps leaderboards.

Porter batted .429 with 27 hits and 42 runs for the Wolves, who finished 15-11 following a 15-5 loss to Timpson in the opening round of the Texas Class 2A regional last week. As a pitcher he struck out 43 in just 26.1 innings.

As of Monday, Porter is the only player in the country with at least 60 stolen bases, Chandler Polland of Woodward Academy (College Park, Ga.) was close at 59. At least 14 players have matched Marte's stolen base total from 2021.

MaxPreps compiles leaderboards from statistics supplied by high school coaches from throughout the country.
