Baseball Recap: Avon Gets the Win

Avon won the last time they faced Keystone and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles skirted past the Wildcats 6-5.

Evan Masuga looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Trevor Sykora was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Lucas Pintar also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Avon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Keystone, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-10.

Avon and Keystone are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against Brecksville-Broadview Heights at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bees' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Avon's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Keystone, they will take on Girard in a tournament on Wednesday.
