Basketball Recap: Bloomfield Wins High-Profile Contest Against Niobrara/Verdigre

Bloomfield faced Niobrara/Verdigre in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bees walked away with a 74-63 win over the Cougars. The Bees' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Bloomfield to victory were Madyson Mlady and Kennedy Mlady. Madyson dropped a double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds, while Kennedy dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 assists. Madyson's big performance that afternoon made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. Peyton Eisenhauer also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Bloomfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amber Sucha, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards. Sucha is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 47% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lynae Nielsen, who posted 15 points and four steals.

Bloomfield's record now sits at 5-0. As for Niobrara/Verdigre, they suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 3-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bloomfield will be home for the holidays to greet Wakefield at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bees will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 65.6 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Niobrara/Verdigre and Hartington-Newcastle will compete for holiday cheer on Tuesday.
