Baseball Game Preview: Lincoln-Way East Griffins vs. St. Rita Mustangs

The Lincoln-Way East Griffins are taking a road trip to challenge the St. Rita Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lincoln-Way East is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Lincoln-Way East is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Sandburg, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Lincoln-Way East was ranked second). The Griffins skirted past the Eagles 3-2.

Meanwhile, St. Rita never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Reavis. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 13 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

St. Rita got a great performance from Sullivan Kazee as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Kazee has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jayden Ibarra was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last nine games. Another player making a difference was Colin Quinn, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

St. Rita kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Lincoln-Way East's record is now 28-4. As for St. Rita, their record now sits at 23-11.
