High school football: Gage Baker of Arizona tops national passing yardage leaderboard

Paradise Honors (Surprise, Ariz.) senior has thrown for 500 yards or more three times this season.

According to statistics submitted to MaxPreps, Gage Baker of Paradise Honors (Surprise, Ariz.) is high school football's national leader in passing yardage.

Through 11 games this season, Baker has thrown for 4,494 yards and 70 touchdowns for the 9-2 Panthers. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior went for a season-high 571 yards with nine touchdown passes in a 64-23 playoff win Friday. He is completing over 75 percent of his attempts and has thrown just five interceptions.

Danny Stoddard of Medina (Ohio) is No. 2 with 3,964 yards. The senior has the Battling Bees deep in the Ohio playoffs and has topped 300 yards in seven games this season. Completing nearly 67 percent of his attempts, Stoddard had a five-game stretch where he tossed 25 touchdowns.

Javier Rice of Asheville Christian Academy (Swannanoa, N.C.) and Isaac Wilson of Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) are tied for third with 3,894 yards. In the regular season finale against Southlake Christian Academy on Oct. 27, Rice completed 42 of his 49 passes for 446 yards and six touchdowns.



Wilson, and Corner Canyon are one win away from the state championship and the Utah commit has the Chargers ranked No. 18 in the nation. Wilson has thrown for at least 300 yards in seven games including three contests with more than 400 yards.
