Baseball Recap: Valmeyer Takes a Loss

Valmeyer had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 11-18 to make it six. They lost 7-1 to the Red Bud Musketeers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Musketeers this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-7 defeat last Wednesday.

Valmeyer saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Hill, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

As for Red Bud, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. Considering they have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Red Bud's side, Ty Voss looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Voss has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brayden Schlesinger was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Landon Ruebusch was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Valmeyer will take on Trico at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Red Bud, they have already played their next contest, an 11-0 loss against Columbia on the 21st.
