Basketball Recap: San Luis Takes a Loss

After flying high against Antelope last Monday, San Luis came back down to earth. The San Luis Sidewinders were dealt an 89-16 defeat at the hands of the Cibola Raiders on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Sidewinders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Raiders are ranked 91st).

San Luis' loss came despite strong showings from Vanessa Ambriz and Natalia Medina. Ambriz posted 11 points, while Medina scored two points and five rebounds.

Leading Cibola to victory were Jaida Bosch and Mariana Vega. Bosch dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten assists, while Vega dropped a triple-double on 21 points, ten boards, and 12 steals. Vega has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brayleigh Stuebs, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten assists.

San Luis' loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Cibola, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

San Luis has already played their next game, a 36-31 defeat against Tolleson on the 17th. As for Cibola, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-29 win against Marana on the 17th.
